Hoover Dam and Lake Mead (11/25/16)
My parents came out to Vegas to visit me for Thanksgiving this past weekend. On Friday we had a chance to go to Hoover Dam and walk around plus do the tour.
Sign inside the Nevada Side Generator Room
We did the extended tour that besides taking us to a room over one of the intake pipes and the Nevada side generator room we got to go down and see through one of the vents in the dam.
The generators of the Nevada generator room.
Just making sure we know what state we are in...
The hallway to the elevator that took us down to the vent tunnel.
View through the vent.
Our tour guide told us that if for some reason the elevator had broke would would have had a 4 1/2 hour climb up these stairs to get back to the top of the dam.
Near the vent tunnel is this box because anything over about a 3.4 magnitude quake requires there be a check on the dam. They actually had to install a camera above the sensor because so many people were accidentally kicking it, they didn't know which were earthquakes and which were kicks to the sensor box.
As we left we took a bit to stop by the Lake Mead lake overlook...
And of course since it was a family trip I had to take family photos...
