I had my first concert photo opportunity today at the Buffalo Room in Kansas City, Missouri. The venue was probably the nicest hole in the wall that can still be considered a hole in the wall. Concrete floor, two steps up to a raised platform that was the stage. Capacity 200. Which meant a sold out show, everyone from 5 to 55 seemed to be there.

I'll start with Destroy Nate Allen since they were the opener. They are a local (to KCMO) husband and wife folk-punk/campfire rock duo. They have been a band active since 2006, but I have to be honest, tonight was the first night I had ever heard of them. They have a ton of energy and and amazingly entertaining. As they state on their website, they are "Interactive, Sing-A-Long, Folk Punk" I highly recommend checking them out if you need something a bit "different" to listen to. Photos of Destroy Nate Allen

The main act, Koo Koo Kanga Roo, attracted probably on of the most diverse concert crowds I had every seen. There was everything from tiny tots running in between everyone's legs to the parents that brought them, to some teenagers (like myself) and a whole bunch of teachers (my mom included). There were a lot of teachers because Koo Koo is very popular on a site called GoNoodle that gives teachers videos to show their classes as "brain breaks". A group of 14 special needs preschool teachers actually rented a school bus and took that to get to the show. Once Koo Koo gets started, it's impossible to resist dancing, or at least tapping your toe. They had everyone in the room moving the entire time and it was an amazing experience. I would recommend two of my favourite tracks by them: "Cat Party" and "Unibrow". Photos of Koo Koo Kanga Roo
